How Does Krill Oil Work?

Krill Oil is not a complicated product with a long list of different ingredients to investigate. There is only one main ingredient: krill oil. But what is that?

First, you should understand that krill are the source of this oil. Krill are tiny crustaceans, low on the ocean food chain. They somewhat resemble shrimp.

These tiny creatures are harvested and oil (krill oil) is drawn out of them. Though only a simple oil, it contains a powerful punch of healthy components, including omega-3 fatty acids and a strong antioxidant known as astaxanthin.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids, more commonly derived from fish oils, do a lot for human health. It is known to lower total cholesterol levels in general, but especially the bad cholesterol.

They also have an inversely proportionate correlation to heart disease such that heart disease decreases when the omega-3 fatty acids are consumed. Likewise, it has been shown in clinical studies to have an anti-inflammatory effect, so muscles are more relaxed and swelling is decreased (in some people, this also leads to a reduction in chronic pain or PMS symptoms).

Astaxanthin

Astaxanthin is an antioxidant that shares many benefits with omega-3 fatty acids. It reduces inflammation, helps the body produce more energy, improves skin quality and even can improve eye sight, over time. It also lends many sea animals (such as salmon, shrimp, crab, and of course, krill) their bright, pinkish color.

Will it Work for You?

Unlike some supplements which contain only an insignificant amount of the active ingredient, Krill Oil has a whopping 1000mg in each serving. This means that you get the maximum benefit of the product.

And, there is a significant amount of clinical studies which not only confirm the efficacy of the product but also note the superior performance of krill oil versus the more traditional fish oil.

One recent study compared the two types of oil and their effects laboratory rats. In the study, it was found that (while both oils reduced fat) the amount of fat reduced around the cardiovascular system with krill oil was almost 40% more than the reduction rate of fish oil. Similarly, the fat around the animals’ livers was some 22% more with krill oil.

Does Krill Oil Have Side Effects?

No product is any good if it has severe side effects, like body rashes, thunderclap headaches and kidney failure. So what’s the verdict on krill oil?

Thankfully, it passes. Krill oil has no severe side effects. Many people (perhaps even most) who consume the oil experience no side effects at all.

And, those who do generally only have mild ones, easily countered. For example, one known side effect occasionally seen – fishy smelling breath – can be treated with a simple breath mint. Another, heartburn, is responsive to over the counter medication like Tums. Other mild side effects include nausea and diarrhea.

However, this may be different for people who have seafood or shellfish allergies. Because Krill Oil comes directly from the krill themselves, there is the danger of an allergic reaction. This is not confirmed, but rather a possibility. You can always speak to a doctor if you are unsure.

Krill Oil Review Summary

Krill oil is easy to take and has a huge impact on overall bodily health. Study after study has noted the benefits of consuming krill oil, going so far as to suggest it may even reduce the likelihood of acquiring cancer. With such amazing, well-documented results, there is no question that this is a product worth taking.
